About Puja & Spiritual Significance
Shri Brihaspati Mandir in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh, is associated with Devguru Brihaspati, the revered teacher of the Devas and the planetary deity of Jupiter in Hindu tradition. Brihaspati represents wisdom, knowledge, righteous conduct, spiritual guidance and auspicious growth. Devotees visit this sacred shrine to offer prayers and seek blessings for education, career progress, family harmony, prosperity and spiritual well-being.
What makes this temple special?
The Brihaspati and Brihaspateeshwar traditions hold a distinctive place in the religious heritage of Kashi. Brihaspateeshwar is a form of Lord Shiva associated with the traditional belief that Guru Brihaspati worshipped a Shiva Lingam here. Thursday, known as Guruvar, is considered especially auspicious for Brihaspati worship. Devotees may offer yellow flowers, turmeric and other customary offerings while praying for wisdom, good fortune and divine guidance.
What are the spiritual benefits of this puja?
Shri Brihaspati Graha Shanti Puja is traditionally performed to seek the blessings of Devguru Brihaspati for knowledge, sound judgment, educational development, career opportunities, prosperity and harmonious relationships. Devotees may also perform this puja as part of their traditional astrological observances when seeking peace from unfavourable Guru-related planetary influences. These benefits reflect religious beliefs and devotional intentions rather than guaranteed outcomes.
What rituals will be performed?
The selected puja may include Ganesh Puja, personal Sankalp with the devotee’s name and Gotra, Kalash Sthapana, Brihaspati Dev invocation, Guru mantra Jaap, traditional offerings, Navagraha Puja, Havan and Purnahuti where included in the selected seva, followed by Aarti and Prasad distribution. Worship of Brihaspateeshwar Mahadev may also be included according to the chosen ritual and the performing priest’s guidance. The exact procedure and mantra count will depend on the selected puja package.
